Human Immunodeficiency Virus, known as HIV, is a global disease. But it’s also very misunderstood. Along with that, it carries a big stigma. In today’s episode you’ll hear the story of one couple who intentionally chose to adopt a son who was HIV positive.

It’s been a common theme in the short life of this podcast, that goes something like this… “God called us to do this. We listened, we followed, chose to trust, and here we are.” Sounds easy, maybe even a little cavalier. But that’s often the nature of choosing to do something radical, and then trusting that God is going to take care of you the entire way.

When Krista Baughn first felt a stirring in her heart to adopt she reluctantly mentioned it to her husband Peter. Little did she know that the same stirring in her heart was also stirring in his. Later on, as Peter searched for organizations who helped families adopt internationally, he discovered a sibling group of two teenage boys who needed a forever home. One was HIV positive.

Many questioned their decision, even asked if they had a plan for keeping their 4 biological daughters safe through the process. But Peter and Krista knew that they were called to do this. And in the year and half that’s passed since bringing their sons home, they’ve never looked back!

Notes and Quotes From The Show.

One of our favorite take-aways from our interview with Peter and Krista was the overwhelming trust they displayed and held on to throughout the process of bringing their sons home. It’s inspiring to us but also inspiring to thousands of other people. Here are some of our favorite quotes from the show…

At times it can feel like there is no end in sight. That can leave anyone feeling hopeless, especially on the road of adoption. When you choose to adopt children from difficult places, or those with special needs, this feeling becomes exponentially greater. But choosing to do this is about believing that you’re called to a greater purpose…

[shareable]Adoption is a story of trust[/shareable]

At one point Krista shared that several people shared facts about abuse that can happen as a result of bringing teenage boys into a home with all girls. In spite of that, she believes that her family is safe and that they are called to do this…
